Biography

Lydia Mirembe is a seasoned communication practitioner with a career spanning over 20 years. She has  practiced journalism and communication, working with reputable organizations at national and international level. She has also undertaken several consultancy assignments in the areas of communication strategy development and implementation, project documentation, communication research and analysis, among others. Lydia has also remained active in academia, currently teaching at Uganda Christian University Mukono, School of Journalism, Media and Communication.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • March 2018: Led the communication and media team during the inaugural Uganda Water and Environment Week.
  • December 2015: Assigned by Water For People – Uganda Country Office to document the implementation of the District Investment Plan process in Kabarole and Kamwenge districts.
  • March 2015: Facilitated WaterAid Uganda’s writeshop for staff and partners, resulting into the production of a compilation of case studies.
  • December 2014 – January 2015: Worked with SNV Uganda to conduct an analysis of the National Hand Washing Campaign (NHWC), leading to the production of a new three-year national hand washing strategy.
  • January – May 2015: Communication specialist on the consulting team that developed the fiveyear Communication and Knowledge Management strategy for the Local Development Fund (LDF) in Malawi; as well as operationalizing the KM Pilot project for the same institution.
  • July – December 2014: Assigned by the Directorate of Water Resources Management (DWRM) Ministry of Water and Environment, to provide technical guidance for the production of the Directorate’s annual Water Quality Outlook.
  • May – December 2012: Part of the consulting team that developed a comprehensive Communication and Knowledge Management strategy for the Lake Victoria Basin Commission, Kisumu - Kenya
  • August 2009: Visiting lecturer at the School of Journalism and Communication, National University of Rwanda, Butare. Invited by the Rwanda Initiative, under the auspices of Carleton University, Canada.
  • April 2009: Commissioned by the Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) to facilitate the process of operationalizing the organization’s five year communication strategy. The exercise involved analyzing communication practices; identifying gaps, identifying areas of synergy within the different units in the NBI and drawing up a plan to kick start the implementation of the organization’s comprehensive communication strategy.
  • February 2009: Part of a team commissioned by Her Royal Highness the Nnabagereka of Buganda to develop a communication strategy for all the entities through which she performs her charity and business activities.
  • November 2008: Consultant for the development of a five-year communication strategy for the Directorate of Water Resources Management (DWRM), under the Ministry of Water and Environment.
  • October 2008: Consultant for the development of a three-year communication and advocacy strategy for the Tororo Civil Society Network (TOCINET)
  • June-July 2008: Commissioned by the Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) to conduct an opinion survey on the public understanding and management of the River Nile as a key water resource.
  • January 2005: Information specialist on the team deployed by the IFRC to assess the humanitarian consequences of the Tsunami on the coastal communities of Somalia. The assessment report was used to launch an advocacy and fundraising initiatives, aimed at assisting the Somali coastal communities, particularly in Puntland.
